Our olive groves are located in Sicily, in the Iblei Mountains, between 500 and 800 meters above sea level. The nearest village is Buccheri, in the province of Siracusa, bordering with those of Catania and Ragusa. Just a tiny village with only 2148 inhabitants, but with three beautiful churches that have traditional Sicilian Baroque features. A wonderful gourmet tavern (U Locale) has been granted the Slow Food’s recognition. Olive groves are the only thing around.
The town’s economy has always been linked to high quality oil, thanks to the favorable climate that protects crops from the summer heat and to a unique variety of olive trees, which can only be found in this particular spot, called the Tonda Iblea area. A quantity so selected, so small, that it represents only the 7.5% of the regional production. Yet, the prizes won around the world in these recent years demonstrate the great potential of this cultivar.
